Your new Orthotic Device/Insoles

This page has been written to give our NoW MSK patients the right information about their new shoe orthotics/ insoles and how to use them.
If you have been issued insoles by another organisation, please refer to their instructions on use.

General information:

Your insoles have been made specifically for you with the intention of helping you with your foot and/or leg condition.

They must be worn in suitable footwear with a low heel and ideally a fastening (laces or Velcro).

Your insoles can be transferred across to different shoes.

Taking into account normal wear and tear, your insoles are designed to last a minimum of 2 years.

You must allow a period of time for your body to get used to the new device, initially they might feel unusual and awkward.

After wearing them the first-time check for any rubbing marks on your foot.

Wearing in guide:

Day 1

Wear for 1 hour

Day 2

Wear for 2 hours

Day 3

Wear for 3 hours

Day 4

Day 5

Other useful information:

If you want to use your insoles for sports then allow at least 1 week of daily wear before trying them for your sport.

Clean your insoles as required using a damp cloth. Do not submerge in water or use a very wet cloth.

What to do if you have issues with your new insoles?

It is normal for you to find your new insoles a little uncomfortable initially but this should normally ease with use.

If your symptoms worsen or you develop a new problem after you start using your insoles, reduce the use of the insoles and gradually build the time back up again. If the problem persists, please call us on 01493 809977 (Mon – Sun 0700-2000).

What to do if you need replacement insoles:

We expect that your new insoles should last you approximately 2 years provided you use them normally.

If you need replacement insole, you can request them here. Any requests for replacement insoles may result in a short phone assessment with our team before they can be re-issued.

We are only able to replace insoles if they were originally given to you by the NoW MSK service.
